Autumn Gales

It has been the driest year I have every known here at Goltho, with only just enough rain to stop plants from actually dying, but now after the gales of the last week, the garden is looking very bedraggled and tired.  I can not wait now to get stuck in tidying up ready for winter and next year, we have already started a little by cutting some of the spring and early summer plants back and getting some of our compost onto a couple of the beds that could cope with it.

The Cyclamen however under the silver birch trees are now looking absolutely fabulous and every time I go down the garden it cheers me up no end to see them flowering away no matter what the weather.

We lost several large shrubs at the back of the rose garden after the bad weather in the winter, but this has open up a new ‘area’ and  last week we have finally got to rotavated it and I have planted it up with Hellebores and Primulas so looking forward to spring to see how this pans out!!
